These paintings are works started in 2017 where I've further codified and applied my post analog approach in taking digital imaging techniques and methods into studio-based oil paintings on board. Binary dot and dash drawings constitute the firmware or ground layer. Photo grey shapes masks out areas and spaces reinforcing illusionary layers and dimensionality. Compositions focus on the figurative memes and the relationship of the body to cyberspace and digital culture. Sgraffito is used to cut through the layers and reveal earlier processes. A dialogue with the visual elements of contemporary pattern and decoration is at play as marks relate to not only the cut and paste layers of Photoshop, and vector shapes of Illustrator, but also the clicks, scrolls, taps, swipes and pinches of the gestures required to engage with screens.
